About DBT STAR College Scheme
Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, granted STAR College Scheme to Govt. Degree College, Pulwama in year 2024. Under this scheme four departments are supported; Department of Applied Sciences (Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Clinical Biochemistry), Department of Botany, Department of Chemistry and Department of Physical Sciences (Physics).
The support provided under the scheme is for strengthening the laboratory facilities & equipment for hands on practical training, availability of chemicals and teaching aids, enhancing skill of teachers through FDPs, holding of hands on workshops, invited lectures, outreach programs, promoting students to undertake small research projects thus inculcating scientific temper in the students, improving their critical thinking and encouraging greater number of students to take up higher education in sciences.

Facilities
The DBT STAR college scheme facilitated the procurement of equipment thus upgrading and strengthening the existing facilities for practicals. Thus, providing students an opportunity to carry out routine practicals as well as carry out research projects fostering critical thinking and analytical skills.
