Govt. Degree College Pulwama is a premier institution of higher learning of district Pulwama Kashmir (J&K). It is an affiliate college of the University of Kashmir, Srinagar. It was established on January 15, 1986. Initially functioning from a secondary school building in Pulwama town, the college later shifted to the present campus in 2001. It earned recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2004 under 12(b) 2(f). The college stands accredited Grade A, with 3.12 CGPA starting 5th April, 2022. Its location is urban and is easily accessible to all areas of the district including students of Budgam and Srinagar (South) as well. The spatial spread of the various buildings of the college over some 66 Kanals of land is very meticulous which foregrounds its grandeur. All the departments have got optimum facilities. The college is a co-education college with regular shifts. There are more than 30 departments which together offer more than 60 programmes justifying the academic flexibility that the college possesses. All these programmes are 100% CBCS courses.

The college accommodates an IGNOU Study Centre (1248) which caters to the distance education demands of the students of the district. The University of Kashmir, Srinagar's Distance Education programmes in the form of B.Ed and M.Ed are also on offer in the college.

The college has a research instrumentation/facilitation centre, a state-of-the-art auditorium, mini-auditorium, Girls’ Common Room, Gymnasium, ATM and dispensary at its disposal. The college has been granted Model College status in 2018 by RUSA.
