SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN RALLY

As part of the Independence Day 2025 celebrations, Government Degree College Pulwama organized a Solid Waste Management Awareness Rally in its adopted village of Barpora, Pulwama, on 12th August 2025. The rally was flagged off by the worthy Principal, Dr. Haris Izhar, and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of a significant number of students and staff. The event was coordinated by all four NSS Programme Officers, with Ms. Waseema Hamid acting as the group leader.

Held in the Barpora village which is adopted by the NSS unit of the college, the rally provided an opportunity for NSS volunteers and staff members to interact directly with the local community and understand their pressing issues related to solid waste management. A shopkeeper requested that the District Municipality vehicle be provided at least twice a week for timely waste collection and safe disposal. Another concern raised was that pits dug by networking companies had later turned into dump sites, creating serious hygiene problems. The village Numberdar was also contacted to coordinate and assist in imparting effective awareness among residents.

The NSS officers assured the locals that their problems would be taken up with the District Administration for suitable redressal. In addition to the awareness rally, the volunteers conducted a cleanliness drive in the park of Ziyarat Sharief Hazrat Syed Sultan Qalandar Balkhi (R.A), reinforcing the message of community participation in maintaining public spaces.
